Ian Robinson was Zimbabwe's most senior umpire - he was a fixture on their first-class panel from 1978 until he was unceremoniously sacked by the Zimbabwe board in 2004 without ever being given a reason. He made his international debut in the 1992 World Cup, and Test debut in Zimbabwe's inaugural Test against India at Harare in 1992 and stood in 28 Tests and 90 ODIs. He was also one of the country's leading administrators, was a ZCU board member for 14 years and an employee of the ZCU for nine. He also fulfilled an important function as the ZCU's international cricket manager. In 2008 he became the ICC Regional Umpires' Performance Manager for the Africa region. He died of lung cancer in April 2016, in Harare.
