Deon Kotze has long been involved in the development of Namibian cricket and since stepping down from his role as captain after eight years in 2006, he has become coach of the Under-19 side.

He continues to perform for the national team, batting in the middle-order and collecting useful wickets with his off-spin. His victims include two international captains in Inzamam-Ul-Haq and Alec Stewart during the 2003 World Cup in South Africa where he led an unsuccessful campaign with unbridled enthusiasm.

Kotze was a lively fielder and charismatic captain who strongly defended his side's right to be at the 2003 World Cup, despite heavy losses against Australia, India and Pakistan. Although the country have not capitalised on the progress made qualifying for that tournament, Kotze is confident that the roots of the game in Namibia are in good condition.
