Harold Mudge was an opening batsman and legspinner who played for New South Wales immediately before the war. His one first-class hundred came for Sir J Cahn's XI on a private tour of Sri Lanka in 1936-37, and his links with Cahn earned him one outing for Leicestershire against Oxford University the following summer when he was trying to qualify for the county. He returned in 1938 and 1939 without playing for them again, but he continued to turn out for Sir J Cahn's XI against top opposition, and toured for a second time with them - to New Zealand - in 1938-39. His bowling was often ineffective, although he took 6 for 42 against South Australia in 1936-37 after returning the same figures against MCC earlier in the season. He played his club cricket for Paddington.
