0.4 to M Vijay, he has got a wicket first over. Vijay pauses before leaving. This is exactly how Rahul got out in the first Test. The ball pitches on a length, just outside off, and it seams back in. Had it swung Vijay would have covered it. This one seams, which means Vijay has to act fast. He fails to do so, and is beaten on the inside edge. The only question is, is he hit outside the line. Doesn't look like that, and Umpire Rod Tucker raises his finger. 4/1
4.3 to AM Rahane, that's an ordinary shot at No. 3. This is a wide length ball, and Rahane has this tendency to play away from the body early in the innings, which hasn't somehow been exposed in the last year. Here he pushes tamely at a wide length ball - a typical out-of-form Kohli shot. Even if he middles this ball, he will only defend it to cover. He doesn't middle it as the ball moves further away from him to take the edge. No feet there. Playing in front of his body and so far away. 12/2
1572421.60803000
87.2 to RG Sharma, at the fag end of the day Sri Lanka claw back into the match with the wicket of Rohit Sharma. This is a good ball and also like the man he is often compared with - Shane Watson - Rohit Sharma is out lbw. In the last two overs Mathews beat Rohit with the outswinger, and that has to be playing on his mind when he shuffles across to a length ball. It pitches just outside off, seams back in, beats the inside edge, hits him in front of middle. Hitting leg for mine. Fair decision from Oxenford. Similar to how Mathews got him out in the first innings of the first Test. 319/6
89.3 to R Ashwin, very loose from Ashwin, there is a man on the drive at short extra cover, and Ashwin has reached forward to scoop this length ball straight to him on the drive. 321/7
2027223.60859022
59.2 to KL Rahul, that's a bad shot. Rahul, like Kohli, scores another baby hundred. This is a wide bouncer, there is no way Rahul can control it, but he goes for the hook and does the only thing possible: get a top edge. He had got his hundred, but the team still needed him. Hopefully he will realise and learn from this. He is filthy with himself. Punches his bat while walking back. 231/4
105.4 to A Mishra, Chameera breaks through, pace and bounce, bangs it in short of a length, just enough away movement to take a thin edge to Chandimal as Mishra prods off the back foot. 367/8
2538143.241066300
43.3 to V Kohli, beautiful catch. Great anticipation as he sees Kohli go back. He knows he is looking to open the face, he begins to move, just a step to his right, and Kohli gets an edge. Mathews is looking to dive and go two-handed, but realises he is close enough to ball, and aborts the dive to take it one-handed. 176/3
71.5 to STR Binny, Binny perishes. He never looked like playing a long innings here. He is not a Test No. 6. He has been picking the ball late and premeditating all his shots against spin. Jumps out of the crease again, makes room, he has made up his mind he wants to go inside-out over cover, but the ball doesn't turn, hits the inside half of the bat, and long-off takes an easy catch. Quite a tame end to the innings from the saviour called in from India. 267/5
111.3 to WP Saha, and Herath is in business third ball after lunch, flighted, sliding on with the angle, pad first on the forward push with bat coming down slightly behind pad, given after some consideration by umpire Oxenford, hit him in front of middle. 386/9
113.6 to I Sharma, Herath stops India short of 400 with another leg-before, Ishant plays back to a flighted ball that hurries on, struck plumb in front. 393/10

84.5 to HDRL Thirimanne, and the half-volley does the trick. Thirimanne doesn't like the decision one bit. He stands leaning on the bat, and his hand on his waist. This is really full - as was suggested he should try in the first session - asking Thirimanne to drive. Thiri does so, but the ball holds its line against the angle and makes a perfect nick sound as it passes the bat. Also his bat is quite far from the body, so the umpire thinks the sound can come only off the bat. Thirimanne, though, is not happy with the decision at all. There is a clear sound, and the quality of pictures available won't resolve the issue here. Also - and we don't need high-quality replays for this - Ishant gave Thirimanne a bit of a send-off, which didn't look pretty. 241/4
90.4 to LD Chandimal, gone! A juggle from KL Rahul at second slip, but he holds on at the second attempt. Length ball on a testing fourth-stump line, maybe it holds its line a bit. Chandimal goes at it with hard hands, and Rahul, falling to his left, but manages to cling on. 259/5
1956713.52829000
1.1 to FDM Karunaratne, Yadav strikes first ball, 137.5 kph, pitched up and swinging in to the left-hander, not sure that is hitting leg stump with all the inward shape, umpire Tucker thinks it is. 1/1
1844412.44856001
98.1 to AD Mathews, what a champ Binny is. He has finally taken a wicket, caught at first slip, and looks back at the umpire asking if this too is a no-ball. Really good to see a player able to now laugh off his misfortune. A good ball too. On a length, outside off, just holds its line as Mathews pushes at it. And Binny has the Sri Lankan captain as his first Test wicket. After having one edge not attempted by his captain at Lord's, and another one yesterday off what turned out to be a no-ball. What a moment, what a reaction. 284/6
2937622.621277000
25.5 to KC Sangakkara, the combination of Ashwin and Rahane takes out Sangakkara again, tossed up on off, Sanga pushes forward to defend, turn produces the edge and a flying Rahane does the rest to his left, plucking it so low from the turf, Mahela Jayawardene stands up and applauds as Sangakkara walks back, the Indians applaud as well. 75/2
106.1 to HMRKB Herath, beaten on the sweep and given out lbw. Herath is down on his knee early, and the ball reaches him late. He is squared up and hit on the back hip and right in front of the stumps. The ball has straightened enough to be hitting the stumps. A pretty straightforward decision. 306/9
2134342.04982000
43.4 to JK Silva, Mishra has accounted for Silva again, top edge to short fine leg! Wonder why he swept it, was it pre-meditated? Was flighted even more on middle stump to tempt the batsman, wasn't full, and Silva swept against the turn to get a leading edge. Easy-peasy catch for Ashwin. 114/3
99.3 to KTGD Prasad, sharp legbreak, and Prasad presses forward to edge it. Prasad has himself to blame, though. He refused a single the last ball of the last over. Easy wicket for Mishra. 289/7
103.4 to J Mubarak, what a lovely delivery. The drift. Oh beautiful drift. Mubarak looks like he has this legbreak covered, but at the last moment it drifts away from him, lands just outside off, and turns back in to hit the off stump. And Mubarak doesn't have it covered because that late drift created the distance between the bat and the line of the ball. Quite understandably Mubarak looks stunned. 300/8
107.6 to PHT Kaushal, wrong'un from Mishra ends the SL innings. Kaushal loses his patience, jumps out of the crease, and is beaten so much in the flight that he would have been stumped if the ball had turned either way. This one turns in, and Saha completes a safe stumping. 306/10

0.5 to KL Rahul, timbahhhh. Late swing. Or is it seam? It is seam. He pitches this up, just outside off, Rahul drives in front of his body, the ball seams back in to take the inside edge onto the stumps. Excellent starts from Prasad. A wicket in the first over of both innings. 3/1
82.1 to STR Binny, and there is a wicket first ball. Binny provides an action replay of how he took his first Test wicket. A lazy poke at a wide length ball - much like Mathews's to him - and second slip takes the catch. 283/6
86.5 to R Ashwin, Sri Lanka clearly don't want wickets, they want to bat as late as possible. Just imagine Chandimal not appealing when Ashwin has clearly edged when attempting a ramp. Sri Lanka know they will have to bat out a longer duration if they get the remaining wickets. Ashwin, though, gives himself out and walks off. Really like Chandimal's presence of mind here. 311/7
88.5 to A Mishra, one more wicket. will India's new-ball bowlers also bat? Short of a length, he gets inside the line, tucks it around the line, but backward short leg takes the catch. 318/8

44.5 to M Vijay, that's a big shout, and a good shout too. Given eventually. Vijay goes for the big sweep, and is hit right in front with the ball not turning too much. Just straightens enough after landing middle and off. Vijay misses out on scoring a hundred, but he has been doing the right thing, looking for quick runs to facilitate a declaration. 143/2
52.5 to V Kohli, big appeal, and the only question is, has this pitched outside leg? This hasn't. This is the offbreak that doesn't turn too much, and skids on to beat Kohli who has gone back to defend it. Hit plumb in front after the ball has pitched on a length, in line with the stumps, and just straightened a little against the angle from round the wicket. 171/3
74.5 to RG Sharma, and Rohit Sharma falls trying to hit a six. He goes for the slog sweep from around off, but the extra bounce takes the top edge to be caught at deep midwicket. The extra bounce is a good sign for India. 256/4
76.2 to AM Rahane, superb catch by Chandimal. Looks to drive a half-volley outside off, the ball doesn't turn as much as he expects, and he gets an edge. To catch a half-volley when the batsman edges when driving is one of the more difficult chances for a keeper, but Chandimal takes this. 262/5

2.4 to JK Silva, what a soft dismissal. He has patted a low full toss to short midwicket. He will be really annoyed with this one. Just a friendly little full toss, which he doesn't hit hard. Just sends this to short midwicket ankle high. Binny takes the catch. 8/1
8.5 to KC Sangakkara, Ashwin has got him four times out of four. Sanga walks off a Test field for one final time. Indian fielders line up to shake Sanga's hand. Quite a mark of how popular a man he was. Percy is on the field with a Sri Lanka flag. Sanga holds his arms aloft, makes no fuss, and walks off quickly. Ashwin has bowled beautifully again. On a length, outside off, dipping on him, not within the reach of Sanga's defence. Then it turns, takes the edge of the defensive bat, and settles with gully. Thank you, Kumar. 33/2
34.6 to HDRL Thirimanne, Pujara serves a reminder of his superb close-in catching in front of the stumps. Ashwin serves a reminder of his class as an offspinner. Lovely dip on the ball as Thirimanne shimmies out of the crease. He is early into the push, he is not close to the ball, this is recipe for disaster. He is looking to work this to leg, gets a leading edge, which has gone quickly to silly point, but Pujara - the substitute fielder - has pouched this. It hits the wrists and gets stuck in the armpit. 106/5
36.4 to KTGD Prasad, and that is a tailender's shot. Prasad has jumped out of the crease and hoicked. Not close to the turning ball, and edges a skier to Mishra at mid-on. 114/7
38.4 to FDM Karunaratne, arm ball. Ashwin has one more. This is lovely bowling. This is bowled with the seam parallel. It lands just outside off, doesn't turn, skids on, hits the pad, and then the stumps. This match could be over before lunch. 123/8
711812.57311000
21.1 to AD Mathews, and he strikes first ball. Yadav has troubled Mathews all test long, and he finally gets the reward. What a dream start to the day. A very good first ball of the day, and a superb catch by stand-in wicketkeeper KL Rahul. On a length, just outside off, holds its line. For the first ball of the day, it is understandable that Mathews has had a poke at it. The edge is taken, and it is dying between Rahul and first slip. Rahul dives to his right, and pouches this in the webbing of his right hand. A sign he can be trusted to keep at SSC?. 72/3
1124113.72505112
35.4 to J Mubarak, Sanjay Manjrekar just spotted Kohli standing closer at second slip than usual, and he has immediately taken a low catch there. Perfect delivery from Ishant for a new batsman. On a length, on off, angling away, drawing a tentative push from Mubarak. Needn't have played it, but he does. The edge is dying, but Kohli is there. They check for the no-ball. It is a close call, but he has a smidgeon of the heel behind the line when he lands. 111/6
9.432933.00443100
27.2 to LD Chandimal, old-fashioned legspinner's dismissal. To bowl a batsman around the pads solely with the drift. When was the last time we saw this? Oh pure joy to watch. Chandimal shapes up to sweep, but the ball drifts on him, falling leg-side of where he think it will, and when down on a knee there isn't much you can do about it. You can just sweep and hope for the best. Chandimal goes with the sweep, makes no connection, and the ball turns back to hit the stumps. Mishra is understandably elated. 91/4
41.5 to PHT Kaushal, wrong'un. That's why legspinners are so difficult for the tail. He has bowled him four legbreak, got him moving forward to defend them, and then slipped in the googly. Kaushal is beaten by a long distance, and is hit in front of middle. Seems like clipping leg or just going down. 128/9
43.4 to PVD Chameera, and the wrong'un finishes it off. Finally a win for Kohli as captain. This is a wrong'un that Chameera has padded up to. Hit in front of off. Quite straightforward. 134/10
