Gemaal Hussain was made to wait for a professional career. He journeyed around playing for the second XIs of five counties before Gloucestershire finally offered him a contract and he swapped Bradford league cricket for Nevil Road, making his debut in 2009 against Kent at Beckenham. He is a tall fast bowler who can swing the ball and has proved himself in the step up to first-class cricket.

In 2010 he went straight into Gloucestershire's County Championship side and tore up Division Two with 67 wickets at 23.24 - the second-best return in county cricket - to almost help his side to promotion. Having missed out, Gloucestershire were unable to persuade Hussain to stay and he left for Somerset. After starting well with 6 for 33 against Worcestershire, things weren't as easy at Taunton and he took only 22 wickets at 44.86 in nine matches in 2011 before injury limited him to just six first-class games in 2012.
