Matt Mason is an Australian paceman with an Irish passport that has made him a Worcestershire stalwart since he joined them in 2001.

Towering at 6ft 6 on a solid frame he has held Worcestershire's meagre bowling resources together, defying growing years to help them to promotion in 2010. He took 31 wickets at 27.38 in the Championship that season.

Injury kept him out of most of the 2007 and 2008 summers but he used the time to bolster his coaching skills and was given a dual role as bowling coach and player when he signed a new contract with the club in 2009. Originally from Western Australia he started his career with the state in 1996-97 but it's Worcestershire where he has really found his home. Midway through the 2011 season he hung up his bowling boots for the final time and retired from playing. He remains an important member of Worcestershire's coaching set up. Sahil Dutta May 2011
