Micromax has bagged the BCCI's series title sponsorship rights for Rs 20.02 million per match for all international cricket to be played in India in the 2014-15 season. India are scheduled to play one home series in this period, against the West Indies. Micromax will also be entitled to title rights for five major domestic tournaments including the Ranji Trophy.
The rights were awarded when the BCCI marketing committee opened the bid documents in the presence of Micromax officials, who submitted the lone bid, in Mumbai on Thursday. The BCCI has once again failed to attract sponsors for international cricket in India. Star India, the lone bidder for the 2013-14 cycle, won the rights last year at the base price of Rs 20 million.
Sanjay Patel, the BCCI secretary, attributed the lack of market interest to "only one series slated for the rights cycle". Patel said the board was delighted to have a new corporate on board. The BCCI expects more corporate interest for the next rights cycle.
"By the time the next tender would be floated, market conditions would have improved," Patel said. "Besides, the new FTP cycle would have started and we will be better placed to evaluate the situation."
