Pubudu Dassanayake has been reappointed coach of Nepal's senior and Under-19 cricket teams, after signing a contract that extends up to June 15, 2015.
Tarini Bikram Shah, the acting president of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), had earlier told ESPNcricinfo that Dassanayake had asked for an increase in salary from $5000 to $12,000 per month. As per the new agreement, Dassanayake will receive $10,000 per month and will also be granted an additional 2,00,000 Nepali rupees towards local expenses.
The contract outlines an additional role, whereby Dassanayake will be required to provide consulting services to the Nepal Ministry of Youth and Sports in relation to the development of cricket in the country. Dassanayake will also sign a working agreement with CAN through the National Sports Council. However, he will only report to the Government of Nepal, through the secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Dassanayake, who first took over the side in 2011, had guided Nepal through a period of success culminating in their first appearance at the World T20 earlier this year. Since then, though, cricket in Nepal has been through turbulent times, with the players coming close to boycotting the national one-day championship over a dispute with the board. In another controversy in May, some members of CAN filed a no-confidence motion against its president, Tanka Angbuhang Limbu, after the running of the Nepal Premier League was outsourced to a private sports management firm.
In March, CAN had said that Dassanayake would get a year's extension. However, due to the board being under investigation, he was only given an additional three months, which ran out in June, after which he left the country. On August 29, Dassanayake returned to Nepal after being invited by the government.
Dassanayake's first assignment on his return is the 2014 Asian Games at Incheon, South Korea later this month.
