Such high drama here at the Rose Bowl.

Sri Lanka win by 2 runs- England started the last over needing 9 runs to win, but debutant Bresnan and wicketkeeper Geraint Jones could only muster 6 runs - they eventually fell 3 runs short of the target.

Sri Lanka, missing their two most experienced players - Vaas and Muralitharan - have come up winners in their maiden Twenty20 International.

The focus now shifts to the One Day International series between these two teams - they meet in the first ODI at Lord's - the home of cricket - on Saturday.

Till then, this is Arun Kumar Gopalakrishnan signing off!

Fernando to Bresnan, 2 runs

Sri Lanka prevail!! length delivery from Fernando - no noball or wide - Bresnan goes for the big heave across the line, can only manage a top edge - ball balloons up in the air to fine leg - Bresnan and Jones complete two runs and that is all they will get

Its the debutant Bresnan on strike - can he get a big one somewhere. He certainly will not want to be on the losing side in his debut match.

5 runs to win off the last ball - England need a certain boundary - a six will see them through, while a four will level the scores.

Fernando to Jones, 1 leg bye

fuller in length, on middle and leg stump, hits the pad and the batsman cross over for a legbye

That brings it down to 6 required from 2 deliveries - England need a boundary now.

Can Fernando ensure he won't bowl a noball or a wide here.

2
Jayasuriya to Bresnan, 2 runs

turns it down to fine leg and takes a couple - those are his first runs in international cricket

Debutant Bresnan is the new batsman

That's the end of a good innings from Trescothick - he was middling the ball well and was scoring runs freely.

With the loss of Trescothick's wicket, will England lose the momentum? They need another 12 more from 8 balls.

Jayasuriya to ME Trescothick, OUT

Trescothick goes for the sweep shot this time, misses it and is hit on the pad, shout for lbw, declined, Trescothick wanted a single, takes off for one but is sent back, Sangakkara running in from behind the stumps, picks up and hit the stumps direct, Trescothick dives in, that looks close and the TV Umpire is called in to adjudicate - Trescothick is short of his ground and has to walk back.c
