So Sri Lanka have won by 87 runs and take the series 5-2. Sangakkara and Jayawardene leading the team off, they wave to the masses in the stands. Dilshan not far behind them. What a great atmosphere. Cook shakes Jayawardene's hand, then Sangakkara's. They are taking the moment with a walk around the ground, the crowd are loving it. Dilshan is there, too. The standing ovation continues as the pair walk around the outfield. For Mahela, this is it in Sri Lanka. That's certain. Sangakkara, we don't quite know yet.

Manish: "Vamsi Sidda could also have wondered about how romantic would it be if Sri Lanka won the World Cup next Year! :P"

Here come the presentations...

Cook: "It was too many runs for us to chase. It's been a tough tour but people have come through personally. Root has been outstanding, also Woakes and Jordan. We've worked incredibly hard, left everything on the pitch but haven't been good enough. It's great to see so many celebrate Kumar and Mahela and I'd like to thank our fans as well."

Man of the Match - Dilshan: "It was a great to finish with the hundred. I'm really happy with the all-round performance in this series. All the things are clicking ahead of the World Cup with the youngsters, everyone is doing well. I will really miss them [Kumar and Mahela] but it's another 10-15 matches until they finish. My body is feeling good, I can see after the World Cup where I'll end up." Dilshan is also Man of the Series

Mathews: "[Dilshan] The older he gets the fast he gets. Really exciting about the World Cup, but have to enjoy this first then get on the plane tomorrow. I want to say a big thank you to all the people who turned up to support us. It will be a sad day after the services they [Kumar and Mahela] have rendered and the guidance they have given."

And up come Mahela and Kumar. Mahela: "Thank you very much, it's been a long time coming. Thanks to my parents and friends and to all the support. It's important we have the support. It was a great series. It's sad and emotional but winning his fun."

The trophy is handed to Mathews and that just about wraps things up for us today. Sri Lanka have played some very fine cricket. England less so, although a few players showed promise.

Sri Lanka now head to New Zealand, England come home for Christmas. England will name their World Cup squad on Saturday and they then leave for Australia, and the tri-series, on January 7. We'll have coverage of all that for you, but the next cricket is in just a few hours with the second Australia-India Test and then South Africa-West Indies starts tomorrow. For now, though, from Andrew McGlashan and Alex Winter it's goodbye and thanks for joining us.

Mahela Jayawardene to Tredwell, OUT

there it is! The pair combine. Mahela and Kumar. Tredwell charges down the pitch, misses by a mile and Sangakkara completes the simple stumping. Plenty of smiles and hugs from the Sri Lanka players.
