The VRA Cricket Ground in Amstelveen (near to Amsterdam) is located in the Amsterdamse Bos. The 10-strip square has hosted several cricket-playing countries. The South Africa touring party played the Dutch national team here in July 1998. The first three-day match was played on this ground in August 1998, when India A visited the Netherlands for a series of matches. The ground then became an official ODI ground during the World Cup in 1999, when it hosted the match between South Africa and Kenya.
From 21-28 August 2004, the Videocon Cup ODI tournament was played at VRA Cricket. Australia, India and Pakistan were the participating teams. It attracted over 25.000 spectators and 700 million TV viewers.
In 2006, the highest ODI total of 443 was recorded by Sri Lanka, playing against Netherlands. This record stood for 10 years.
South Africa, Nepal, Namibia, England, Ireland, Afghanistan are among the international teams that have played here.
In 2020, the picturesque clubhouse, constructed in 1938, was completely renovated. The ground was also enlarged and an indoor cricket hall was erected, making the facilities ready for the future. This allows for playing cricket all year round.
England and West Indies are set to play in Amsterdam in 2022.
