WBBL round-up: Kapp chaos; Harmanpreet and Rodrigues rout Stars; Poonam and Redmayne hand Heat victory

Marizanne Kapp ripped through the Hobart Hurricanes top order, taking 4 for 10 to spark a stunning collapse and set up a five-wicket win for Perth Scorchers at the WACA.

The South Africa quick took four wickets in the powerplay as Hurricanes slumped to 6 for 19 in the seventh over. Kapp knocked over openers Rachel Priest and Naomi Stalenberg in three deliveries in the second over of the match, trapped Nicola Carey lbw in the fourth over and had Molly Strano caught behind in the sixth over. Sophie Devine got in on the fun claiming two wickets of her own as the ball swung and seamed.

Ruth Johnston (38) and Sasha Moloney (15) salvaged something from the wreck putting on a 54-run partnership to help give Hurricanes bowlers something to defend. Lilly Mills wrapped up the innings taking three of the last four wickets as Hurricanes were all out for 96.

Tayla Vlaeminck threatened to give Scorchers a taste of their own medicine knocking over Beth Mooney, Sophie Devine and Chamari Athapaththu with some express pace in the first eight overs of the chase. But the boundaries flowed consistently at the other end with Chloe Piparo making 29 while Kapp finished 18 not out to complete an extraordinary all-round performance as Scorchers cruised home with 27 balls to spare.

Spin twins Sophie Molineux and Harmanpreet Kaur combined to strangle Melbourne Stars and help Melbourne Renegades move well clear on top of the WBBL thanks to a clinical seven-wicket win at the Adelaide Oval.

Molineux and Harmanpreet shared five wickets between them with their fingerspin as Stars collapsed for just 103, before Jemimah Rodrigues (45) and Carly Leeson (41) controlled the chase as Renegades got home with 5.5 overs to spare.

Stars' top order crumbled after Elyse Villani was superbly caught at backward point by Rodrigues off Harmanpreet in the second over. Meg Lanning could not produce her heroics of Saturday and made just 17 as they slumped to 4 for 41 in the ninth over. Kim Garth (32) and Erin Osborne (29) steadied with a 42-run stand but the innings fell in a heap after Garth was run out. Molineux and Harmanpreet took the last four wickets of the innings, with Molineux claiming figures of 2 for 10 from four overs while Harmanpreet took two wickets in the last over and a run out ended the innings as Renegades completed a team hat-trick.

Renegades lost Eve Jones for a duck but Rodrigues and Leeson put together an 81-run partnership to ice the game. The pair struck 11 fours between them before Garth removed them both with the win in sight.

Three wickets from Poonam Yadav and a half-century from Georgia Redmayne has guided Brisbane Heat to a comfortable win over Sydney Thunder at the Adelaide Oval.

Poonam bowled beautifully snaring 3 for 17 including the crucial scalp of India team-mate Smriti Mandhana to help restrict Thunder to 7 for 143 before Redmayne made her third half-century of this WBBL to lay the foundation for the chase, with Georgia Voll, Mikayla Hinkley and Laura Kimmince producing some powerful striking to finish the job with 10 balls to spare.

Thunder looked on track to set an imposing total racing to 1 for 62 in seven overs with Mandhana striking six fours and a six in her 37. But she holed out to deep square leg in Poonam's first over. Corinne Hall was trapped lbw next ball and Thunder fell in a hole. Phoebe Litchfield held the innings together with a composed 40 from 32 balls but became Poonam's third victim in the 14th over. It was left to captain Hannah Darlington to push the total up to 143 with a handy 19 from 15 balls at the death.

Redmayne continued her good form guiding the chase after the early loss of Grace Harris. Redmayne struck seven fours in her 57 from 45 balls. She shared a 41-run stand with Voll and a 59-run stand with Hinkley to get the equation under a run a ball before she fell to Deepti Sharma with 22 runs to win. Kimmince whacked a six and a four to ice the game. Darlington picked up two consolation wickets late to finish with figures of 3 for 21.
