Rilee Rossouw stood out from a gaggle of debutants as South Africa won the first international match staged at Adelaide Oval since the completion of its $A450m redevelopment. Batting first on a cool evening, Australia struggled to pick up the pace and failed to muster a boundary in their last 26 balls, partly because of Abbott, who claimed the pivotal wicket of Watson, returning from the calf injury which had ruled him out of the Pakistan Tests. Reeza Hendricks edged a beauty off Bollinger three deliveries into his debut, but Rossouw and de Kock had little trouble against bowling that, save for Cummins - with a remodelled action in his first international for two years - lacked the discipline to defend such a middling target. Finch had a close shave with a flamethrower as he collected the ball from behind the rope, prompting Cricket Australia to abandon their use for the next match.
