A skilful, subtle purveyor of slow left-arm darts, Danny Briggs was unable to prove himself in a brief flirtation with international cricket but instead flourished as one of the most effective limited-overs spinners in the county game. He was a key figure in Hampshire's prolonged spell of white-ball success between 2009 and 2015, and further stints at Sussex and Warwickshire have cemented his status as the leading wicket-taker in the history of the T20 Blast.

His ability in one-day cricket first became apparent in 2010, when he took 31 wickets in Hampshire's victorious FPt20 campaign, and he soon found himself impressing for the England Lions in the Regional Four-Day Competition in the Caribbean the following spring. While his Championship opportunities were somewhat limited, he continued to impress in white-ball cricket to the extent that England gave him an ODI debut against Pakistan in 2012.

He went to the World T20 in Sri Lanka later that year - postponing his wedding as a result - though played only once, and was taken to pieces by Aaron Finch during his record 156 at the Ageas Bowl before going for 53 in a wicketless final England appearance in 2014.

But he continue to excel as Hampshire reached Finals Day six years in a row, and when he left as a 24-year-old, he had 119 wickets for them in the format, at an economy rate below 7. He rarely spun the ball much, but was a canny operator who could deliver his subtle variations from both sides of the wicket. After moving to Sussex, he earned a surprise Lions recall in 2018 after another prolific Blast campaign and in 2022 - now at Warwickshire - he became the first man to pass 200 wickets in the competition.

Briggs' red-ball career stalled in his time at Sussex, albeit he made a maiden first-class century in 2017 with 120 from 154 balls against South Africa A, having only previously made a single first-class fifty. But his move to Edgbaston enhanced his allround role in red-ball cricket, and his 31 wickets and 297 runs were an important contribution to Warwickshire's Championship survival in 2022.
