1) RR Phillips (Border) took a hat-trick in his first over in first-class cricket (v Eastern Province at Port Elizabeth, 1939-40) having previously played in four matches without bowling.
2) Rao, six days later, performed two hat-tricks in one match against North Punjab. Shortly afterwards, he was injured in a parachuting accident becoming a paraplegic.
