Stuff yourself, work it off

With so much to do in Dunedin, there's no need for guilt for indulging that sweet tooth

Go for a stroll beachside
If you like walking by the sea, St Clair Beach is perfect. Whenever it's a nice day, there's a great walk from St Clair to St Kilda, a neighbouring beach. If long beach walks aren't for you, grab a bite to eat at one of the cafés in the area. One of my favourites is Starfish, where they do a great kumara and bacon hash. They've also got great coffee if you need a morning pick-me-up.
Hike Pineapple Track
For serious walkers, I'd recommend heading up Pineapple Track for a great view back over the city. The track got its name back in 1920, when a local grocer took hikers up the trail and rewarded them with a tin of pineapples at the top of Flagstaff summit. The track is about five kilometres long and takes some two hours, but the views are worth it.
Give yourself a sweet treat
One thing New Zealand is known for is chocolate. The Cadbury Factory Tour is a must-do for anyone who likes sweet treats. There's an interactive tour around the factory, where you can learn about how the chocolate is made, complete with free samples. If you're left wanting more, there's a gift shop for you to take some home with you.
Spend time on the Octagon
If I was showing people around Dunedin, this is where I'd take them over the weekend. An octagon-style layout with a roundabout in the centre, it is the heart of Dunedin. There are bars and restaurants in the middle of the Octagon and top-end restaurants on the outskirts. If you're looking for a specific place to dine, I'd recommend Nova.
Test yourself on a run
Baldwin Street is supposedly the steepest street in the world and makes for a killer run or walk. The road itself is only 350 metres, but it's tough work running up it. I joined up with the Otago men's cricket side and their fitness trainer and one of the things we had to do was run up and down Baldwin Street six times as fast as we could. Give it a go!
