Son of Niranjan Shah, the former BCCI secretary, Jaydev Shah's credentials, amid modest numbers, revolve around his leadership. In 2015, he broke the record for most number of Ranji Trophy matches as captain, when he upstaged Ravinder Chadha's tally of 83 matches as Haryana captain. It was also under his captaincy that Saurashtra won their only title till date, the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2007-08. The title-winning run got the selectors to name him captain for India A's short tour of Israel in July 2008. He has also been at the forefront of two memorable Ranji Trophy campaigns for Saurashtra when they reached the final in 2012-13 and 2015-16. Having previously been contracted to Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians, Jaydev was signed for INR 20 lakh by the Rajkot-based Gujarat Lions for IPL 2016.
